Rebecca Launches Cross-Party Campaign for Better Roads

Rebecca has launched a new cross-party group in Parliament dedicated to improving the state of the UK’s roads. The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Better Roads will focus on raising awareness of the critical role the road network plays in the UK’s economy, environment, and daily life, while advocating for proper investment in a safe, sustainable, and well-maintained infrastructure.

Improving road conditions has long been a priority for Rebecca, who made “fixing our roads” a central pledge in her successful campaign to become Reigate’s MP during last year’s General Election.

In 2022, she launched the ‘Fairer Road Funding’ campaign to tackle deteriorating road conditions in Surrey, culminating in the submission of a petition - signed by nearly 6,000 local residents - to 10 Downing Street. Her efforts contributed to Surrey securing an additional £82 million in road improvement funding in November 2023.

Rebecca has also led efforts to combat road-related challenges in the region, including opposing the expansion of the ULEZ into Outer London due to its potential impact on local residents and businesses. She further launched a campaign to address excessive noise from the concrete road surface between Junctions 8 and 9 of the M25.

Since entering Parliament in July 2024, Rebecca has used her position on the influential Public Accounts Committee to advocate for road improvements at a national level. Her efforts led the Committee to launch an inquiry into the condition and maintenance of England’s local roads. The resulting report, published in January 2025, incorporated many of her recommendations.

Rebecca will serve as Chair of the new APPG for Better Roads. She will be supported by fellow MPs Mike Reader, Lewis Cocking, and Surrey MP Lincoln Jopp, who will serve as officers of the group.

Commenting on her appointment as Chair, Rebecca said:

“I’m proud to be leading this important APPG on Better Roads. Our aim is to shine a spotlight on the need for smarter, more efficient use of road maintenance funding, and to explore long-term solutions - particularly around disruptive emergency utility works. Having campaigned for better roads as a local councillor, I’m delighted to take this fight to Parliament and work with colleagues from all parties to deliver real change.”
